Description

The United States Coast Guard has served as the nation’s elite maritime security force since its founding in 1790. Always ready to protect America’s freedom at a moment’s notice, the U.S. Coast Guard serves as a vital front-line force, safeguarding America’s shores and propelling American forces to victory overseas.

The sailors of the Coast Guard consistently meet America’s need for port security and coastal defense with trademark efficiency and patriotic zeal, demonstrating unparalleled versatility and superior skill.

This coin salutes the U.S. Coast Guard’s mission to bolster America’s security by keeping vigilant watch over all of the nation’s waterways.  Struck in a brass alloy and gently brushed with an antique bronze finish, this coin was minted using special “splash” dies, which account for its exceptionally deep relief, featuring the Coast Guard emblem on the front and an area for engraving on the reverse.

Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
