Description

This coin pays tribute to USCG Reliance WMEC 615, the first of the 210-feet Medium Endurance Cutter fleet. Today’s Reliance was commissioned in Galveston, Texas in 1964 and is now home ported in Portsmouth, New Hampshire at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Proudly earning the motto “First in the Fleet,” Reliance WMEC 615 carries on a long and distinguished history as the fourth cutter to bear that name. Its origins date back to the Civil War, when Reliance served as a blockade ship in Chesapeake Bay. Now, Reliance patrols the Atlantic from the eastern coast of Canada to the northern tip of South America performing search and rescue, drug and migrant interdiction, fisheries enforcement, and safety inspections.

Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
