With this challenge coin in hand or on display, crewmembers of the Bernard Webber will possess a tangible reminder of their time supporting America’s maritime defense from the decks of one of the Coast Guard’s most modern vessels.

The Bernard Webber is the first of the Coast Guard’s 154-foot Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutters capable of deploying independently to conduct a variety of missions, including fisheries monitoring, drug and illegal migrant interdiction, and coastal defense operations. With capacity for 24 sailors and the ability to reach a top speed of 28 knots, the cutter can remain at sea for a minimum of five days before replenishing and be underway for up to 2,500 hours per year. She is named in honor of Bernard C. Webber, who with his crew of three aboard the 36-foot motor lifeboat CG-36500, rescued the crew of the stricken tanker Pendleton, which had broken in two during a winter storm off the coat of Massachusetts.

The obverse of this challenge coin features the crest of the Bernard Webber, with its motto “Determination Heeds No Interference,” in brilliant detail and dazzling enamel color. The reverse displays the Coast Guard emblem minted in antique bronze.

Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
