Description
Remember your visit to the Cabrillo National Monument with this die-struck medallion created by master artisans. Great as a gift, to celebrate a trip or to just hold as a lasting reminder of your journey through America’s great outdoors, this National Monument medallion will capture your Cabrillo Monument experiences in enduring, splash-minted metal.
Located on the Point Loma Peninsula near San Diego, CA, Cabrillo National Monument commemorates September 28, 1542, the first time that a European expedition had set foot on what became the west coast of the United States. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo’s voyage of discovery was a key moment in the exploration that led to the creation of the state of California.
The medallion’s obverse shows the Conquistador Cabrillo gazing over San Diego Bay. The reverse displays the text “Man’s Frontier, the Sea,” with a gray whale spouting in the foreground. Minted in deep relief using a special “splash minting” process, this coin is struck in a brass alloy and given a beautiful lacquered finished.
Each coin measures 1 1/2 inch (38.1mm) in diameter.
This is an NWTMINT surplus item.
