Founded in 1946 by the legendary Admiral Nimitz, the Blue Angels perform more than seventy air shows each year for fans of all ages.
Renowned for executing some of the most challenging maneuvers ever attempted, the Blue Angels manage to maintain the highest level of flight discipline, often completing complex aerial stunts in their trademark diamond formation. In the tradition of the Wright brothers, men driven by the passionate pursuit of aviation excellence, the intrepid pilots of the Blue Angels squadron embody America’s adventurous spirit.
This coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of powered flight, a triumph that began with the Wright brothers’ bold experiment at Kitty Hawk and one that continues today in the legacy of the Blue Angels. Depicted on the obverse is the famous Wright brothers’ biplane flying above the F/A -18 aircraft of the Blue Angels squadron. The reverse bears the seal of the Blue Angels.
Minted in a brass alloy, this truly unique coin is finished in antique bronze.
