A massive mammal, the Black Bear has a standing height of up to seven feet and can weigh as much as 600 pounds.
Highly adaptable, the American Black Bear is found throughout the North American continent, typically making its home in heavily wooded areas. Despite its enormous size, the Black Bear can reach running speeds of up to thirty miles per hour as it bounds through the forest in pursuit of prey. A superb swimmer, it feeds frequently on fish from raging mountain rivers and streams, using its spear-like claws and razor sharp teeth to capture its prey.
