This special challenge coin salutes Moody AFB, GA, and the 23d Wing of the Air Combat Command for their flawless execution of combat close air support in every war zone worldwide, and for their humanitarian search and rescue operations and support for the global war on terrorism.

The 23rd Wing lineup is impressive:  The 23rd Fighter Group, with the legend-heritage as “The Flying Tigers,” provides combat-ready A-10s and aircrew, the deadliest combination of close support known in the entire world.  The 347th Rescue Group is the only US Air Force active-duty Operations Group dedicated to Combat Search and Rescue. The 563rd Rescue Group is responsible for training, readiness, and maintenance of one HC-130 squadron and two HH-60 squadrons, ensuring the finest combat readiness.

The Moody AFB, GA, coin features recessed and semi-sandblasted surfaces, highlighted in rich enamels. The obverse is the insignia of “The Flying Tigers,” and the reverse is the US Air Force emblem. The reverse bears the wing and star emblem of the new Air Force symbol is based on the familiar World War II “Hap” Arnold wings and represents the service’s heritage. The symbol’s modern design represents the Air Force’s present and future leading edge capabilities defending the United States.

This handsome challenge coin is minted in bronze and given a shiny nickel finish, and is imbued with durable and attractive enamel.

Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
