“On Wings We Conquer” is the proud motto of the 19th Airlift Wing, stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base (AFB). Since it was first established in 1927, the group has earned the distinction of being one of the most decorated units in the United States Air Force. This challenge coin salutes the honors of “The 19th,”which include eight Presidential Unit Citations, ten Air Force Outstanding unit Awards, one Air Force Meritorious Unit Award, one Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
The Wing was a component of Strategic Air Command’s deterrent force during the Cold War. It served in Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East. Its component units are currently engaged in combat operations as part of the global War on Terror. It provides the Department of Defense the largest transport fleet in the world, supplying humanitarian airlift relief to victims of disasters, while performing its primary mission of airdropping supplies and troops into the heart of hostile and combat areas.
The 19th Airlift Wing challenge coin is highlighted in rich colors, the obverse featuring the 19th Airlift Wing insignia in blue, gold and white enamels. “On Wings We Conquer” is the surround. The reverse is a striking rendition of the United States Air Force emblem in blue and white enamels.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
