Description
This 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) challenge coin commemorates the massive Sustainment operation performed by the Command, unmatched in the US Army. The 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) provides support to all fighting units at Fort Hood, including 1st Cavalry Division, 4th Infantry Division, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, 36th Engineer Brigade, 41st Fires Brigade, 48th Chemical Brigade, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, and several other tenant organizations.
The primary mission of the Command is divided into two areas: Combat Service Support, and Functional Service Support. Combat Support brings maintenance, transportation, and field services, everything needed to sustain warriors in battle at all levels. Functional Services provide medical, general engineering and construction, smoke generation, biological detection, and decontamination support. The Command deploys into any theater of operations and gets the job done in a manner befitting America’s elite warriors.
The 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) coin uses rich enamels of yellow, blue, and red to recreate the Command’s insignia on the obverse of the coin. It reads “13th Sustainment Command—Service to the Soldier.” The coin reverse is designed for the engraving of name, dates of service, or other message.
Each coin measures 1 3/4 inch (44mm) in diameter.
